How to uninstall HeidiSQL on Windows
HeidiSQL keeps almost nothing of its own: your saved server connections and settings live in the registry, not in a file you could easily back up by copying a folder. Check your connection list inside HeidiSQL before you remove it, and write down anything you would not want to retype. This guide covers HeidiSQL installed machine-wide from the HeidiSQL.HeidiSQL winget package.
Quit HeidiSQL first
Close every open connection and close the HeidiSQL window. Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) lists its process by the file name, heidisql, not the app name; confirm it is gone before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find HeidiSQL, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id HeidiSQL.HeidiSQL
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
HKCU\SOFTWARE\HeidiSQL |
Saved server connections, passwords and window layout | Look it over before removing; this is the only copy of your saved connections |
%APPDATA%\HeidiSQL |
Reserved for the app's own data | Empty in most installs; safe to remove |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process heidisql -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id HeidiSQL.HeidiSQL
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\HeidiSQL"
Get-ItemProperty HKCU:\Software\HeidiSQL -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Get-ScheduledTask | Where-Object { $_.Actions.Execute -like "*heidisql.exe*" }
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there.Get-ItemPropertyreturning values means the entry remains. With no output, check for permission or other query errors before deciding that it is absent.- A scheduled task listed by the last command still points at the removed
heidisql.exe; HeidiSQL's own installer created it and the uninstaller does not remove it. You can delete it yourself from Task Scheduler if you want it gone.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch the registry key with your saved connections.
What Mole lists
For HeidiSQL installed machine-wide from winget:
- The program folder, the Start Menu folder and the public desktop shortcut are selected by default.
HKCU\SOFTWARE\HeidiSQL, where your saved connections live, is listed but not selected.%APPDATA%\HeidiSQLis listed but not selected.- The scheduled task the installer creates is reported in the result but not removed; scheduled tasks are never deleted automatically.
What this test covered
Tested with HeidiSQL 12.21.0.7344 installed through winget, machine scope. The uninstaller ran silently with no window. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test, except the scheduled task, which Mole only reports.
