How to uninstall Granola on Windows
Granola's meeting notes belong to your Granola account, and removing the Windows app does not delete them. Before you uninstall, open Granola one last time, or sign in on another device, and confirm the notes you need are there. The local folders to decide about are %APPDATA%\Granola and %LOCALAPPDATA%\Granola. This guide covers Granola installed per-user from the Granola.Granola winget package. Reinstalling Granola
Quit Granola first
Quit Granola from its window or tray menu. It ran ten Granola.exe processes in this test, so check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) that none is still listed before you uninstall. Granola adds a startup entry named Granola; you can turn it off in Settings › Apps › Startup, and the next steps cover removing it.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Granola, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Granola.Granola
The uninstaller removes the program folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\@granolaelectron and the Start Menu and desktop shortcuts. The folder name comes from Granola's internal package name, not from "Granola". In this test it left both data folders, the downloaded update in %LOCALAPPDATA%\@granolaelectron-updater, the granola:// link, the browser connection keys and the Granola startup entry, which then pointed at a program that no longer existed.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Your Granola account | Your meeting notes | Not local app data; check that what you need is there before removing the app |
%APPDATA%\Granola |
Sign-in state, local app data, and caches such as Cache, Code Cache and GPUCache |
Keep it if you might reinstall; remove it for a clean start |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Granola |
A few small local files | Remove it with the app |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\@granolaelectron-updater |
A downloaded update installer | Safe to remove |
HKCU\Software\Classes\granola |
The granola:// link registration |
Safe to remove once the app is gone |
HKCU\Software\Google\Chrome\NativeMessagingHosts\com.granola.app, the same key under Chromium and under Microsoft\Edge |
Lets a browser extension talk to the desktop app | Safe to remove once the app is gone |
The Granola value in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run |
The startup entry | Remove it once the app is gone |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process Granola -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Granola.Granola
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\@granolaelectron"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Granola", "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Granola", "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\@granolaelectron-updater"
Test-Path HKCU:\Software\Classes\granola, HKCU:\Software\Google\Chrome\NativeMessagingHosts\com.granola.app
Get-ItemProperty HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run -Name Granola -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means it is still open. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. - The second command prints one
TrueorFalseper folder, in the order listed.Truemeans that folder is still there, which is expected for%APPDATA%\Granolaif you chose to keep it. - The third command prints one result for the link and one for the Chrome connection key.
Truemeans that registration is still there. Get-ItemPropertyreturning values means the entry remains. With no output, check for permission or other query errors before deciding that it is absent.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch the data folders, the update cache or the registry entries above.
Account and subscription
Uninstalling does not cancel a paid Granola plan or delete your notes. Granola's security page says you can delete individual notes or request deletion of all your data; removing the app does neither.
What Mole lists
For Granola installed per-user from winget:
- The program folder
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\@granolaelectrongoes with the app row. The Start Menu and desktop shortcuts are selected by default. %APPDATA%\Granolaand%LOCALAPPDATA%\Granolaare listed but not selected, since they may hold your sign-in and settings. The caches inside%APPDATA%\Granola(Cache,Code Cache,GPUCache, the two Dawn shader caches andCrashpad) are listed on their own and selected by default.%LOCALAPPDATA%\@granolaelectron-updater, which holds only a downloaded installer, is selected by default.- The
granola://link and the Granola startup entry are selected by default and backed up to a.regfile before removal. - The three browser connection keys for Chrome, Chromium and Edge are listed but not selected, since the files they point to sit in
%APPDATA%\Granola. They are backed up to a.regfile first and removed only once those files are gone. - A row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program is selected by default.
What this test covered
Tested on September 30, 2026 with Granola 7.595.3, the x64 per-user installer from the winget package, run under emulation on an ARM64 virtual machine. The uninstaller is NSIS and Mole ran it silently. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. An earlier run did not recognise the @granolaelectron program folder, its update cache or the startup entry; they are listed now, as described above. Not verified: signing in, recording a meeting, and the browser extension.
