How to uninstall GoLand on Windows
Save projects and stop builds or debug sessions before removing GoLand. Back up settings, plugins, scratch files and any Local History you still need. This guide covers a standalone machine-wide winget installation; a Toolbox-managed copy should be removed through Toolbox.
Quit and uninstall
Close GoLand and check Task Manager for goland64.exe. Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps › GoLand › Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id JetBrains.GoLand --exact
JetBrains documents both removal flows. The standalone uninstaller is under bin in the installation directory; keep it available until removal finishes.
Keep IDE data separate from projects
JetBrains separates configuration and system directories. These versioned folders were observed in the test; custom paths and other major versions can differ.
| Location | What to do |
|---|---|
%APPDATA%\JetBrains\GoLand2026.2 |
Back up settings, plugins and scratch files before removing |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\GoLand2026.2 |
Review Local History as well as caches and logs |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\Daemon |
Keep while another JetBrains product needs it |
| Your project folders | Keep source code, .idea files and build configuration |
Do not delete the JetBrains parent folders, Toolbox data or your Go toolchain to remove one IDE. Uninstalling GoLand does not cancel a JetBrains subscription or delete an account.
Check the result
Get-Process goland64, jetbrainsd -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id JetBrains.GoLand --exact
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\JetBrains\GoLand2026.2"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\JetBrains\GoLand2026.2"
No process output means those names are not running; jetbrainsd may belong to another JetBrains product, so check its owner before stopping it. No winget match means that installation record is gone. True means the specific data folder remains and False means it does not. Keeping settings for a reinstall is expected; an error leaves the check unresolved.
What Mole lists
The program folder, matching shortcuts, usage records and registrations still pointing at GoLand are selected by default. The two versioned data folders are listed but not selected, and are not offered when another installation uses the same IDE version. The Daemon folder is selected only when no other installed JetBrains product claims it. Machine-wide JetBrains settings and other products' data remain separate.
Both versioned Local and Roaming directories are personal data, unchecked by default and excluded from bulk selection. Removing either requires selecting its row individually; Local History and scratch files do not regenerate with caches. Another installed copy of the same IDE version keeps both directories.
What this test covered
Tested on October 3, 2026 with GoLand 2026.2.3, machine-wide winget installation on an ARM64 VM. The NSIS uninstaller completed; the explicitly selected IDE data, Daemon and protocol rows were removed. Real projects, Local History recovery, account sync, Toolbox coexistence and a separate vendor-only removal were not tested.
The October 4, 2026 review added a product-specific positive test for both personal-data directories, another installed copy and bulk-selection exclusion. Real history and scratch-file retention was retested in IntelliJ IDEA; this product was not separately retested with real history. Earlier explicitly selected data-removal runs do not prove data retention. The released download was not verified.
