How to uninstall FL Studio on Windows
FL Studio keeps your projects, presets, recorded audio and settings in its user data folder, which by default is Documents\Image-Line, not in the program folder, and uninstalling never touches it. Back it up first if you might reinstall or move to another PC. This guide covers FL Studio 2026 installed machine-wide with Image-Line's installer from image-line.com. That installer also registers FL Studio ASIO and FL Cloud Plugins as separate apps.
Quit FL Studio first
Save your project and close FL Studio. Check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) that no FL64.exe or FL Cloud Plugins window is still listed before you uninstall. FL Studio added no startup item in this test.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find FL Studio 2026, and choose Uninstall. The uninstaller asks for administrator access, since FL Studio was installed for all users.
FL Studio ASIO and FL Cloud Plugins stay installed. If you no longer need them, uninstall each one from the same list; FL Studio ASIO is a driver other audio apps may use.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Program Files\Image-Line\FL Studio 2026 |
Program files, plugins and bundled content | Left behind in this test; check it after the uninstall and remove it yourself once your projects are backed up |
Program Files\Image-Line |
Vendor folder shared by Image-Line products | Leave it while another Image-Line product is installed |
Program Files\FL Cloud Plugins, %ProgramData%\FL Cloud Plugins and %APPDATA%\FL Cloud Plugins |
FL Cloud Plugins, a separate app | Removed by that app's own uninstaller, not by FL Studio's |
Public desktop shortcut and the Image-Line Start Menu shortcuts |
Shortcuts | The uninstaller removes most of them |
Your user data folder, Documents\Image-Line by default, was not part of this test because FL Studio was never opened; keep it, or back it up before you remove anything.
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process FL64 -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Get-ItemProperty "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\FL Studio 2026" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\Image-Line\FL Studio 2026"
Test-Path "$env:USERPROFILE\Documents\Image-Line"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. Get-ItemPropertyreturning values means the entry remains. With no output, check for permission or other query errors before deciding that it is absent.Test-Pathon the program folder returningTruemeans files remain there; remove the folder yourself once your projects are safe.Test-PathonDocuments\Image-LinereturningTruemeans your user data is still there, which is expected. If you moved Documents to another drive, look there instead.
Account
Uninstalling does not deactivate your FL Studio license or sign you out of your Image-Line account; the license stays with your account, and a reinstall unlocks it again when you sign in.
What Mole lists
For FL Studio 2026 installed machine-wide with Image-Line's installer:
- The public desktop shortcut and the two
FL Studio 2026Start Menu shortcuts are selected by default. Program Files\Image-Line\FL Studio 2026is not listed. In this test it stayed on disk after the uninstall, so check it and remove it yourself.- FL Studio ASIO and FL Cloud Plugins are separate apps in the list, each with its own review.
Documents\Image-Lineis not part of the list.
What this test covered
Tested on 2026-09-28 with FL Studio 2026 (26.1.6.5639) installed machine-wide from Image-Line's installer. Only the FL Studio 2026 entry was removed; FL Studio ASIO and FL Cloud Plugins were left installed. FL Studio itself was not opened, so no project, license or user data was created. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test.
