How to uninstall Elgato Stream Deck on Windows
Your Stream Deck profiles, button layouts and installed plugins live in %APPDATA%\Elgato, and the uninstaller leaves that folder behind. Make a backup from Stream Deck's own Preferences before you remove it if you might set it up again, on this PC or another one. This guide covers Stream Deck installed machine-wide from the Elgato.StreamDeck winget package, a Windows Installer package now published by Corsair.
Quit Stream Deck first
Stream Deck starts at sign-in and keeps running in the notification area; its Volume Controller plugin adds a second startup entry. Both show in Settings › Apps › Startup. Quit Stream Deck from its tray icon, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for StreamDeck or QtWebEngineProcess still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Elgato Stream Deck, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Elgato.StreamDeck
It is a machine-wide Windows Installer package, so Windows asks for administrator access. The uninstaller removes Program Files\Elgato\StreamDeck, the Program Files\Elgato\Volume Controller plugin folder, both startup entries and the desktop shortcut.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%APPDATA%\Elgato |
Profiles, plugins and settings | Back it up, or make a backup in Stream Deck first; remove it for a clean start |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Elgato |
Local app data and caches | Safe to remove once Stream Deck is gone |
HKCU\Software\Elgato Systems GmbH\StreamDeck and ClientCoefficients |
Small settings keys under Elgato's former company name | Safe to remove if you are not reinstalling; leave the parent key if other Elgato software is installed |
| Firewall rules named Elgato Audio Control Server and OBS Studio Stream Deck Plugin | Network access rules the app added | Remove them in Windows Defender Firewall if you want; they do nothing once the program is gone |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process StreamDeck -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Elgato.StreamDeck
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\Elgato\StreamDeck"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Elgato"
Test-Path "HKCU:\Software\Elgato Systems GmbH\StreamDeck"
Get-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "*Stream Deck*", "Elgato*" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Elgato"returningTruemeans your profiles and plugins are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.- The registry check returning
Truemeans the settings key is still there. - Lines from the last command are firewall rules that are still present.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same Windows Installer removal Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch %APPDATA%\Elgato, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Elgato or the settings keys.
Account
Uninstalling does not sign you out of your Elgato account or remove anything you got from the Elgato Marketplace; you can install it again after reinstalling.
What Mole lists
For Stream Deck installed machine-wide from winget:
- The public desktop shortcut is selected by default; in this test the uninstaller had already deleted it.
%APPDATA%\Elgatoand%LOCALAPPDATA%\Elgatoare listed but not selected, since they hold your profiles and settings.- The keys under
HKCU\Software\Elgato Systems GmbHand the two firewall rules are not listed. Check them after the uninstall and remove them yourself.
What this test covered
Tested on September 27, 2026 with Stream Deck 7.6.0.23012 installed through winget, machine scope, and removed with its Windows Installer uninstaller. Both listed data folders were ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: a connected Stream Deck device, or a signed-in Elgato account.
