How to uninstall draw.io on Windows
Check where your diagrams are actually saved before removing draw.io Desktop. draw.io can save .drawio files to a folder on this PC or to a connected account such as Google Drive, OneDrive, GitHub or GitLab, so there is no single default location to back up; open File › Recent in draw.io and check each diagram you care about. This guide covers draw.io installed per-machine from the JGraph.Draw winget package.
Quit draw.io first
Save your diagrams and quit draw.io, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any draw.io.exe still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find draw.io, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id JGraph.Draw
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%APPDATA%\draw.io |
App-level settings and connected-account state, not your diagrams | Safe to remove |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\draw.io-updater |
Downloaded update installers | Safe to remove |
A diagram saved to a device folder is an ordinary file wherever you put it; one saved to a connected cloud account lives there, not inside draw.io, so removing the app never touches it either way.
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process "draw.io" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id JGraph.Draw
Test-Path "${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\draw.io"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\draw.io"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means a window is still open. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\draw.io"returningTruemeans app-level settings are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same NSIS uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch %APPDATA%\draw.io on its own.
Connected cloud accounts
Removing draw.io does not disconnect or sign you out of a Google Drive, OneDrive, GitHub or GitLab account you connected to it; those stay managed on that service's own side, independent of anything on this PC.
What Mole lists
For draw.io installed per-machine from winget:
- The program folder is selected by default; in this test the uninstaller had already removed it before Mole's own step ran.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\draw.io-updateris selected by default.%APPDATA%\draw.iois listed but not selected.- File type registrations for
.drawio,.mermaidand.vsdxare left alone, since other apps that open those files share them.
What this test covered
Tested with draw.io 31.5.2 installed through winget, machine scope, using its NSIS uninstaller (Uninstall draw.io.exe /allusers /S). Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: a connected cloud account, or the 31.5.3 update winget offered.
