How to uninstall Doubao on Windows
Doubao (豆包) keeps your conversations, settings and downloaded files in your user profile, separate from the program files. This guide covers Doubao installed per-user from the ByteDance.Doubao winget package.
Quit Doubao first
Close every Doubao window. Doubao can also start at sign-in, so check Settings › Apps › Startup for an enabled Doubao entry, and check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any Doubao.exe still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Doubao, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id ByteDance.Doubao
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Doubao |
Local settings and caches | Safe to remove once you are done with the app |
%APPDATA%\Doubao |
Conversations, settings and downloaded files | Back this up first if you want to keep it; the uninstaller does not remove it |
HKCU\Software\Doubao |
A settings key under your user account | Safe to remove once Doubao is uninstalled |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process Doubao -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id ByteDance.Doubao
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Doubao"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Doubao"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means a window is still open. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Doubao"returningTruemeans your conversations and settings are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch %LOCALAPPDATA%\Doubao or %APPDATA%\Doubao on its own.
Account and sync
Uninstalling does not sign you out of your account or delete cloud-stored conversations. They stay tied to your account whether or not the desktop app is installed.
What Mole lists
For Doubao installed per-user from winget:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Doubaois listed but not selected.%APPDATA%\Doubaois listed but not selected, since it holds your conversations and settings.- The desktop and Start Menu shortcuts; in this test the vendor's own uninstaller had already removed them before the review ran.
- Doubao registers itself as one of the apps that can open several image file types. That registration for each image type stays behind after uninstalling, since other installed apps share the same list; it is harmless and you can leave it.
What this test covered
Tested with Doubao 2.30.4 installed through winget, per-user scope. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test, and the sign-in startup entry Doubao had added went with the app. Not verified: a signed-in account, or removing an install with saved conversations. The historical test tool's select-all included personal-data rows, so these removal results do not establish Mole's UI bulk-selection behavior.
