How to uninstall Ditto on Windows
Ditto keeps your entire clipboard history in a database in your profile; uninstalling the app never touches it. Back it up first if you want to keep that history, or delete it yourself if you don't. This guide covers Ditto installed machine-wide from the Ditto.Ditto winget package.
Quit Ditto first
Right-click the Ditto tray icon and exit it, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for Ditto.exe before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Ditto, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Ditto.Ditto
Back up before you remove data
Copy %APPDATA%\Ditto if you want to keep your clipboard history.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%APPDATA%\Ditto |
Your clipboard history database and settings | Back this up first; the uninstaller does not remove it |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process Ditto -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Ditto.Ditto
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\Ditto"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Ditto"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Ditto"returningTruemeans your clipboard history and settings are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same Inno Setup uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files, its Start Menu shortcut and its login item; it does not touch %APPDATA%\Ditto on its own.
What Mole lists
For Ditto installed machine-wide from winget:
- The program folder, the Start Menu shortcut and the login-item Run value are selected by default.
%APPDATA%\Ditto, where your clipboard history lives, andHKCU\SOFTWARE\Dittoare listed but not selected.- Two firewall rules Ditto's installer added are only reported, never removed, since Mole does not manage firewall rules.
What this test covered
Tested with Ditto 3.25.113.0 installed through winget, machine-wide scope. Not verified: syncing clipboard history between machines, or a paged clipboard history larger than the test run's.
