How to uninstall DisplayFusion on Windows
This guide covers the official DisplayFusion 12.1.1.0 x64 Windows installer. Exit the client before uninstalling.
Back up settings and data first
After quitting the app, copy any data folder you want to keep to another location and check the copy. These locations were observed in this test; keep your own projects and files separate.
| Location | Contents | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%ProgramData%\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion |
Application data | Keep for reuse; remove only to reset |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\DisplayFusion |
Application data | Keep for reuse; remove only to reset |
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion |
Application settings | Export this exact key in Registry Editor before resetting it |
Uninstall the app
Uninstall DisplayFusion from Windows Settings. The measured machine program folder was %ProgramFiles%\DisplayFusion.
Check the result
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\DisplayFusion"
Test-Path "$env:ProgramData\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\DisplayFusion"
Test-Path 'HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion'
Test-Path "$env:ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\DisplayFusion"
Test-Path "$env:PUBLIC\Desktop\DisplayFusion.lnk"
(Get-Item 'HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run').GetValueNames() -contains 'DisplayFusion'
@(Get-CimInstance Win32_Service -ErrorAction Stop | Where-Object Name -eq 'DisplayFusionService').Count
Test-Path returns False when that exact path is absent and True when it still exists. A data path returning True is expected if you kept your settings or data. If a query reports an error, resolve it before deciding whether the path is absent.
The last two commands check the DisplayFusion startup value and service. Successful queries return False and 0 after removal; another result means the value or service remains. A failed query leaves that check unresolved.
What Mole lists
The application, shortcuts, user startup value and usage records are selected by default. %PROGRAMDATA%\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion, %LOCALAPPDATA%\DisplayFusion and HKCU\SOFTWARE\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion are rows listed but not selected by default. Leave them unchecked to keep settings and data.
When you select the user settings key, Mole exports it to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Mole\backups before deletion. Independent.NET runtimes, repair caches and shared publisher parents remain.
What this test covered
Tested on October 6, 2026, in a Windows 11 ARM64 VM with a Mole development build. This batch selected all three data rows. The first seven checks returned False, the service count was 0, and the settings backup contained. The exact uninstall registration, native app list and successful process query showed no owned application. Multiple monitors and the released Mole package were not tested.
A separate vendor uninstall left the three settings locations above. A Mole development build listed them without selecting them in a scan at least ten minutes later. This checked detection only; the settings were not removed.
