How to uninstall DingTalk on Windows
If you use an enterprise DingTalk (钉钉) account, chat history syncs to your organization's servers, but anything you downloaded to this PC lives only in the local data folders below and will not come back from the cloud on its own. Save what you need before removing the app. This guide covers the mainland China build installed machine-wide from the Alibaba.DingTalk.Mainland winget package.
Quit DingTalk first
Quit DingTalk from its tray icon or window menu; closing the window can leave it running in the tray. Check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any DingTalk.exe still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find DingTalk, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Alibaba.DingTalk.Mainland
Because DingTalk installs for every account on this PC, both the Settings row and the winget command raise a UAC prompt. DingTalk's own uninstall window has a "delete personal local data" checkbox that starts unticked; Mole runs the uninstaller quietly without deleting that data either, and offers the same folders below for your own review afterward.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\DingDing |
Program files | Removed by the uninstaller |
%APPDATA%\DingTalk |
This account's local data: settings and anything DingTalk downloaded to this PC | Check for files you saved from chats before removing |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\DingTalk_91 |
More of this account's local data | Check before removing |
HKCU\SOFTWARE\DingTalk |
Registry settings | Safe to remove |
| Start Menu and Public Desktop shortcuts | App shortcuts | Removed by the uninstaller |
A shared browser runtime folder and Alibaba's common SDK folders that other Alibaba apps also use are not offered here; they are not DingTalk's alone.
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process DingTalk -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Alibaba.DingTalk.Mainland
Test-Path "${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\DingDing"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\DingTalk"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means a window or the tray helper is still open. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\DingTalk"returningTruemeans your local data is still there, which is expected unless you removed it yourself.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch %APPDATA%\DingTalk or %LOCALAPPDATA%\DingTalk_91 on its own.
Account and sync
Removing the app does not sign you out of your DingTalk account, remove you from your organization, or delete chat history and files already synced to your organization's DingTalk. That content stays on its servers regardless of what you do on this PC.
What Mole lists
For DingTalk installed machine-wide from winget:
- The program folder, the Start Menu shortcut and the Public Desktop shortcut are selected by default.
%APPDATA%\DingTalk, where your local data lives, is listed but not selected.%LOCALAPPDATA%\DingTalk_91andHKCU\SOFTWARE\DingTalkare listed but not selected.
What this test covered
Tested with DingTalk 7.1.0 installed through winget, machine scope. A silent run and the uninstaller's own window left the same data behind either way, so Mole runs it quietly by default. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: signed-in chat history and an organization-managed policy.
