How to uninstall Audacity on Windows
This guide covers the official Audacity 4.0.1 ARM64 machine MSI installer.
Back up projects first
Keep your audio projects and exports before uninstalling. This test did not create an audio project or verify project recovery.
Uninstall the app
Quit Audacity, then uninstall it from Windows Settings. The measured program root was C:\Program Files\Audacity 4, with the main executable in bin\Audacity4.exe.
What Mole lists
The application, its shortcuts, owned file handlers and usage records are selected by default. Local and Roaming Audacity data folders are ordinary Review, unchecked by default and included only when you select those data rows. Their settings can be lost if selected.
Check the result
Test-Path 'C:\Program Files\Audacity 4'
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Audacity"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Audacity"
In this run, all three paths and the exact MSI registration were absent after one normal removal. Both user and SYSTEM process checks were clear. Two firewall registrations were reported as retained under the existing boundary.
What this test covered
Tested on October 7, 2026, in a Windows 11 ARM64 VM with source-built Mole. The real editor and plugin-validation prompt, native icon, size, Status, Startup and review were observed. The MSI removal and independent readbacks passed. Providers offered a newer Audacity build, but an unresolved download-environment failure blocked upgrade execution. Plugin validation, real audio editing, external uninstall, restoration and the released Mole package were not tested.
