How to uninstall AnythingLLM on Windows
Everything AnythingLLM Desktop builds up lives in %APPDATA%\anythingllm-desktop, in its storage folder: the database with your workspaces, chats and settings, the parsed documents you uploaded, the local vector database, custom agent skills and any models downloaded for its built-in runner. Models can make it many gigabytes, and the uninstaller leaves the folder in place. Models can be downloaded again, but your workspaces, documents and agent skills cannot, so copy the whole folder to another drive before you remove it. If you pointed AnythingLLM at Ollama or LM Studio instead, those models belong to that app and stay where it keeps them. This guide covers AnythingLLM installed per-user from the official installer at anythingllm.com. AnythingLLM desktop storage
Quit AnythingLLM first
Quit AnythingLLM from its window. It runs as several AnythingLLM.exe processes, so check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any still listed before you uninstall. The test found no startup entry.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find AnythingLLM, and choose Uninstall. The uninstaller removes the program folder in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\AnythingLLM, which carries the built-in inference engine and is well over a gigabyte on its own. It does not touch %APPDATA%\anythingllm-desktop. AnythingLLM uninstall

Back up the whole folder if you might reinstall; remove it only when you no longer need your workspaces |

Firewall rules
If you allowed AnythingLLM through the Windows Security alert, Windows created two inbound rules named anythingllm.exe, and the uninstaller leaves them. They point at a program that no longer exists. To remove them, open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security › Inbound Rules as an administrator and delete the two anythingllm.exe rules.
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process AnythingLLM -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\AnythingLLM"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\anythingllm-desktop"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\anythingllm-desktop-updater"
Test-Path "HKCU:\Software\Classes\anythingllm"
Get-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "anythingllm.exe" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | Select-Object DisplayName, Direction, Action
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means something is still open. - The first

Test-Pathlines returningTruemean those items are still there;Falsemeans they are gone. - The last command printing rows means the firewall rules are still there. No matching output from a confirmed successful query means they are gone.
What Mole lists
For AnythingLLM installed per-user from the official installer:
- The program folder goes with the app row.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\anythingllm-desktop-updater, which holds only downloaded update installers, is selected by default.%APPDATA%\anythingllm-desktopis listed but not selected, since your workspaces live there. Ticking it, yourself or with Also remove data, sends them and any downloaded models to the Recycle Bin, and a large folder may be too big for the Recycle Bin, in which case Windows asks before deleting it for good.- The desktop and Start Menu shortcuts, the
anythingllm://link and a row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program are selected by default; the link is backed up to a.regfile before removal. - The two firewall rules are named in the result and not removed; remove them yourself as above.
- The Prisma cache folders are not listed, since other projects share them.
What this test covered
Tested on September 29, 2026 with AnythingLLM 1.16.2 from the official installer, per-user scope, installed from an elevated session on an ARM64 virtual machine. The uninstaller is NSIS and ran silently. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test; the firewall rules and the Prisma cache folders stayed. No workspace was set up, no document was embedded and no model was downloaded, so backing up or removing a working setup was not verified.
