How to uninstall ACE Studio on Windows
ACE Studio saves your projects in a folder called ACE_Studio in your user folder, and uninstalling the app does not touch it. Keep that folder, or copy the projects you want elsewhere, before you clear anything. Your voice subscription and purchases stay with your ACE Studio account. This guide covers ACE Studio installed machine-wide from the ACEStudio.ACEStudio winget package.
Quit ACE Studio first
Save open projects and close the window, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any ACE Studio.exe still listed. The installer starts ACE Studio when it finishes, so it may be running even if you never opened it yourself. A running copy keeps the program folder from being removed.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find ACE Studio, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id ACEStudio.ACEStudio
Because it is installed for all users, Windows asks for administrator approval before the uninstaller runs.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%ProgramFiles%\ACE Studio |
Program files | The uninstaller removes it when ACE Studio is not running |
%USERPROFILE%\ACE_Studio |
Your projects | Keep it; it was empty on the test PC |
HKCU\Software\Classes\AcepStudioFile |
The file type that opens ACE Studio projects | Remove once the app is gone |
%CommonProgramFiles%\VST3 |
The shared folder for VST3 audio plugins | Shared with other audio apps; leave it |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process "ACE Studio" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id ACEStudio.ACEStudio
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\ACE Studio"
Test-Path "$env:USERPROFILE\ACE_Studio"
Test-Path "HKCU:\Software\Classes\AcepStudioFile"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the app is no longer registered; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\ACE Studio"returningTruemeans files remain there, usually because the app was still running; quit it and remove the folder, or reinstall and uninstall again.Test-Path "$env:USERPROFILE\ACE_Studio"returningTruemeans your projects folder is still there, which is what you want.Test-Pathon theAcepStudioFilekey returningFalsemeans the file type registration is gone.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses; it does not touch your ACE_Studio projects folder.
Account and subscription
Uninstalling does not cancel an ACE Studio subscription or delete your account. Manage the subscription in your ACE Studio account.
What Mole lists
For ACE Studio installed machine-wide from winget:
- The program folder, the Start Menu folder, the desktop shortcut and a row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program are selected by default.
- The
AcepStudioFilefile type is selected by default and backed up to a.regfile before removal. - Before the uninstall, Mole asks you to quit ACE Studio if it is running.
%USERPROFILE%\ACE_Studioand the shared VST3 folder are not listed.
What this test covered
Tested on September 28, 2026 with ACE Studio 1.8.8 installed through winget, machine scope, on an ARM64 test VM. The copy of ACE Studio the installer started was still running when the test uninstalled it, because of how the test was set up, so the program folder stayed on disk; that result comes from the test setup, not from ACE Studio's uninstaller. The other listed rows were ticked and removed. Not verified: signing in, voice downloads and real projects.
